The mosaic form

The approach Zikovic took with his story makes it too easy not to ask whether there was a chapter, or dream, that resonated with you more than the others. Was there a standout vignette for you?

  1. The first and last stories were definitely my favorites. Maybe I have a thing for cantankerous old schoolmarms. I found Miss Emily's dream really touching.

  2. Yeah, I agree. The first one felt especially electrifying not just because of the suspense but because of the tense power dynamic going on between the teacher and the students.

The last one was very touching, though it had a whiff of that cliche that "odd," lonely women are odd and lonely because of some long-ago disappointment with a dude. I enjoyed all the clock drama, though.

Of the middle stories, I think the psychic one was my favorite. I liked the relationship between the weird guy and the psychic who really didn't appear to believe in all the mumbo-jumbo her clients expected. The asylum story was interesting, but I predicted that something would happen with the vent as soon as it was mentioned. And the ski lift one bordered too often on the goofy, as you two mentioned, to be altogether compelling.
