I did like it but not in the sense that it was fun. It was decidedly more intriguing than my pick. I got a volume that also included “The Day of the Locust” which I’ve been intending to read for years ever since watching John Schlesinger’s movie. With that in the background, I read “Miss Lonelyhearts” thinking about its cinematic potential. Although often visually distinctive, I think a movie would have a hard time getting into this. The exercise did leave me puzzling over the differences between what we are shown and told in the story. I might try to put up something later about this.
